About this exam
One notification fills Constable (Civil Police), Armed Police, Special Security Force, Mounted Police, Mahila Battalion and Jail Warder posts, all at Pay Matrix Level 3 (₹21,700–69,100). The selection runs on a simple spine: an offline OMR written exam (150 questions, 300 marks, 2 hours), then document verification with the physical standard test, a qualifying running race (PET), and a final merit list built purely from written exam marks — there is no interview. The paper has four subjects: General Knowledge (with heavy Uttar Pradesh content), General Hindi, Numerical and Mental Ability, and Mental Aptitude, IQ and Reasoning. There is no English paper; Hindi grammar and vocabulary are tested in Hindi. Because lakhs of candidates sit in many shifts, scores are normalised across shifts, so your rank depends on the adjusted score, not the raw one. The PET is a pass-or-fail run, but the written exam is where the merit list is actually made, so speed and accuracy on the OMR sheet decide selection.

Exam pattern
Written exam (परीक्षा-1) — merit-deciding Merit-deciding (PET and PST are qualifying)
Offline, OMR answer sheet · 120 min · 2 marks per correct answer; 0.5 marks were deducted per wrong answer in the previous cycle's exam procedure — the 2025 advertisement does not restate this, so confirm before the exam
The official advertisement fixes the total — 150 questions, 2 marks each, 300 marks, 2 hours, four subjects, OMR mode — and gives the full subject-wise syllabus, but does not print a per-subject question count. The 38/37/38/37 split shown here is the pattern of the previous (2024) cycle's paper, reproduced in dated exam reports; confirm the final split from the board's exam-day notice. No sectional timing. Minimum qualifying marks in the written exam: 30% for Unreserved, 25% for OBC, 20% for SC/ST. Scores are normalised across shifts using the board's published procedure.
Document verification and Physical Standard Test (PST) Qualifying — candidates shortlisted from the written result in a multiple of the vacancies
In person, at designated centres · Not applicable
Original documents are checked (education, age, caste in the prescribed Prakoshtha formats, UP residence certificate for reservation, DigiLocker uploads). Physical standards per the advertisement: male minimum height 168 cm (160 cm for ST), chest 79 cm unexpanded and 84 cm expanded with a minimum 5 cm expansion; female minimum height 152 cm (147 cm for ST), minimum weight 40 kg. Height and chest measured earlier in other recruitments do not count; the measurement at this stage is final.
Physical Efficiency Test (PET) — qualifying race Qualifying (pass or fail); failing candidates are eliminated at this level
Running race at designated centres · Not applicable
Only candidates who clear document verification and the physical standard test appear in the PET. Male candidates must complete a 4.8 km run within 25 minutes; female candidates must complete a 2.4 km run within 14 minutes. Candidates who do not finish within the time do not qualify and are removed at the same level. There is no second chance after the notified last date.
Eligibility

Selection process
Written exam (300 marks, offline OMR) → shortlist in a multiple of the vacancies → Document verification + Physical Standard Test → PET (qualifying race) → Medical examination → Final merit list on written exam marks. The merit list is prepared category-wise from written exam marks only; the PET and the physical standard test are pass-or-fail stages and carry no marks. Ties in marks are resolved in this order: candidates with a preferential qualification (NCC 'B' certificate, DOEACC/NIELIT 'O' level, or two years' regular army service) first, then the older candidate, then the candidate whose name comes earlier in English alphabetical order in the Class 10 certificate. There is no interview. Post allotment follows the merit-cum-preference order you filled in the application.
Normalisation (why your raw score ≠ final score)
The written exam runs in many shifts across several days with different question papers, so the board applies its published normalisation procedure (notice dated 18 December 2023) to adjust scores across shifts before preparing the merit list. In practice: (1) never compare raw scores with candidates from other shifts; (2) attempt the paper you actually get, at its own pace; (3) a raw score a little below a cutoff you have heard about is not final — only the normalised score is compared. The OMR answer sheet is printed in three copies: the original goes to the board and you keep a copy.

FAQs
What is the UP Police Constable written exam pattern?
One offline OMR paper: 150 objective questions, 2 marks each, 300 marks, 2 hours, with four subjects — General Knowledge, General Hindi, Numerical and Mental Ability, and Mental Aptitude/IQ/Reasoning. There is no sectional timing. The official advertisement fixes the totals and the syllabus; the subject-wise question split (38 GK, 37 Hindi, 38 Numerical and Mental Ability, 37 Reasoning) follows the previous cycle's paper — confirm the final split from the board's exam-day notice.
Is there negative marking in UP Police Constable?
In the previous cycle's exam procedure, 0.5 marks were deducted for every wrong answer (and for marking two options on one question), while each correct answer earned 2 marks. The 2025 advertisement sets 2 marks per correct answer but does not restate the penalty, so confirm it from the official exam instructions before guessing on the OMR sheet.
Does the PET carry marks? What decides the final merit?
No. The PET is purely qualifying: male candidates run 4.8 km in 25 minutes and female candidates run 2.4 km in 14 minutes. Fail the race and you are out, pass it and nothing is added. The final merit list is built only from written exam marks, category-wise.
What are the physical standards (PST)?
As per the advertisement: male minimum height 168 cm (ST 160 cm), chest 79 cm unexpanded and at least 84 cm expanded, with a minimum 5 cm expansion; female minimum height 152 cm (ST 147 cm) and minimum weight 40 kg. Height and chest measured at this stage are final, whatever earlier certificates say.
What is the age limit for UP Police Constable?
For this cycle, as on 1 July 2025: 18–22 years for male and 18–25 years for female General/EWS candidates. SC, ST and OBC candidates of Uttar Pradesh get a maximum of 5 years' relaxation (male up to 27, female up to 30), and UP state government employees get 5 years. Ex-servicemen follow the notice's service-based table.
What is the application fee?
₹500 for General, EWS and OBC candidates and ₹400 for SC/ST candidates, as per the 2025 advertisement. The fee is paid online after submitting the OTR-based application; check the notice for the exact breakup of portal charges.
Can women apply for UP Police Constable?
Yes. Women can apply for Constable (Civil Police), the Mahila Battalion Constable posts and Jail Warder (female) — 2,282 vacancies are reserved in the Mahila Battalion alone, and women also compete within the Civil Police female quota. Armed Police, Special Security Force and Mounted Police posts are male-only in this notification.
What is the pay of a UP Police Constable?
All posts in this recruitment sit in Pay Matrix Level 3: ₹21,700–69,100 (pay band 5200–20200 with Grade Pay 2000), plus the usual dearness allowance and allowances applicable to UP Police.
Do computer, NCC or army-service certificates help?
They give no extra marks, but they give preference when candidates tie on equal marks: a DOEACC/NIELIT 'O' level computer certificate, at least two years' service in the regular army, or an NCC 'B' certificate. A candidate holding more than one such qualification gets the benefit of only one.
What is the minimum qualifying marks in the written exam?
30% for Unreserved candidates, 25% for OBC and 20% for SC/ST, applied under the service rules named in the notice. Clearing the minimum alone is not enough — selection depends on your category-wise rank in the normalised written exam marks.
Documents for document verification
Keep these ready for the application and for document verification: Class 10 certificate (date of birth proof), Class 12 (Intermediate) marksheet, caste certificate in the prescribed UP format (Prakoshtha-1 for SC/ST, Prakoshtha-2 for OBC, Prakoshtha-4 for EWS where applicable), certified UP residence/domicile certificate (needed for claiming any reservation), ex-servicemen or freedom-fighter-dependent certificate where applicable, No Objection Certificate for in-service candidates, photo ID (Aadhaar preferred — the process uses Aadhaar-based authentication), a real-time photograph taken during the application, and your scanned signature (black ink on white paper, 50×20 mm). The board asks for certificates to be uploaded through DigiLocker, so keep your DigiLocker account active. Name and date of birth must match exactly across all documents — mismatches are the commonest cause of verification trouble.
