SSC CGL: response-sheet score, objections and the Tier 2 bridge
By ExamShortcut · Published 22 Oct 2026 · Checked 21 Oct 2026
A response sheet is useful only when you can distinguish your recorded choice, the provisional key and a final result. This guide explains the workflow to use when SSC publishes the matching key. It does not announce a 2026 key release or predict your normalised score.
1. Save the evidence before calculating
Open the key link through SSC and confirm the exam year, tier, date and shift. Save the question paper with recorded responses and the published key while the official window is available. A coaching answer list is not a substitute for the recorded response SSC uses.
Keep one untouched copy and work on a second copy. Build a small ledger: question ID, recorded choice, official answer, your objection reason and evidence. Question IDs matter more than a screenshot's question number, because display order can differ. Check the deadline and fee in the current notice; an older cycle's window is not permission to submit now.
2. Calculate raw marks with a clear audit trail
For the standard Tier 1 marking of +2 and −0.5, raw marks are 2 × correct − 0.5 × wrong. Unanswered questions contribute zero. If you attempted 80 and 68 are correct, 12 are wrong: 136 − 6 = 130. Reconcile correct + wrong + unanswered with the total paper before trusting the number.
Use the CGL score calculator as a second check. Raw marks, normalised marks, percentile and rank are different quantities. None can be converted exactly into another from just your response sheet. A revised key or a notice about dropped questions can also alter the calculation.
3. Challenge the answer, not your disappointment
A useful objection identifies the exact question and explains a testable error: an unsupported official option, two valid options, a missing condition or a calculation that contradicts the key. Attach a credible reference with the relevant page or passage when the portal permits it. A social-media poll is weak evidence.
For a maths objection, show the setup and substitution, not only the final value. For language or general awareness, check the wording and date of the source. Submit only through the official tracker and retain the acknowledgement. Paying a challenge fee does not guarantee acceptance; wait for the final key and SSC's processing rules.
4. Move from Tier 1 review to Tier 2 work
Classify mistakes into concept, reading, calculation and time allocation. Repair the first failed step on three fresh problems; copying a solution is not a repair. Keep the error notebook short enough to revisit.
Start the Tier 2 guide alongside this review. English, maths and reasoning need deeper practice; computer knowledge and the qualifying data-entry task also need scheduled attention. If your preferred post requires an additional paper, check that requirement separately. A hoped-for Tier 1 cutoff is not a reason to postpone all next-stage study.
Try it before opening the answer
Original learning checks, not recalled exam questions or a prediction of your score.
1. 72 correct, 14 wrong and 14 unattempted: what is the Tier 1 raw score?
137 marks.
72 × 2 − 14 × 0.5 = 144 − 7. The counts add to 100. This is raw-score arithmetic, not a normalisation estimate.
2. Two candidates have the same raw score in different shifts. Must they receive the same normalised score?
No exact normalised score can be inferred.
Normalisation depends on the official method and the relevant score distributions. A response sheet alone does not supply that information.

Common questions
Is this a 2026 answer-key release announcement?
No. Use Answer keys and the official SSC portal for a verified release notice.
Does a raw score establish qualification?
No. Qualification comes from SSC’s published result for the matching category and post/stage rules.
