Miniature schools
Mughal painting — founded under Akbar (Hamzanama workshops), peaked under Jahangir (portraits, naturalism). Rajasthani schools (Mewar, Kishangarh — the Bani-Thani style). Pahari schools of the Himalayan foothills — Kangra is the most celebrated, with Radha-Krishna themes. Company paintings (late 18th–19th c.) were made for British patrons. The Bengal School — Abanindranath Tagore (his Bharat Mata, 1905), backed by E.B. Havell and carried by Nandalal Bose — answered Western academic style with an Asian idiom. Raja Ravi Varma — Kerala's oil painter who fused European realism with Indian subjects through mass lithographs.
