RRB NTPC: choose the right CEN, post and CBT preparation path

By ExamShortcut · Published 22 Oct 2026 · Checked 2 Nov 2026

Graduate and undergraduate NTPC recruitment share a familiar name, but their notifications, eligibility and post choices are separate. The unified RRB portal lists detailed CEN 06/2026 and 07/2026 notices. This guide helps you use the correct one without confusing it with the older 2025 CBT 2 key.

1. Current deadlines, posts and an older result

The detailed CENs now confirm graduate applications through 6 November and UG through 13 November, both at 23:59. Graduate vacancies are 3,548; the four-post table does not list Station Master or Traffic Assistant. The graduate CBT 1 start is tentatively planned for the fourth week of December. The CEN 07/2025 result/typing update is a separate older cycle.

2. Create a cycle-and-level label

Write the CEN number, graduate/undergraduate level and selected RRB at the top of your notes. Match all three before opening an application, key or result link. A notice for CEN 07/2025 is not an announcement for CEN 07/2026.

Read the detailed notification rather than treating an earlier indicative advertisement as the full rulebook. Check qualification cut-off, post parameters, language, medical standard and permitted application choices. The NTPC hub links the two current detailed notices. If a later corrigendum changes a rule or vacancy, retain it with the original CEN.

3. Compare posts by work and additional tests

Do not choose only by a pay figure or popularity poll. Record the post's job setting, shift expectations, medical requirements and any typing or aptitude task. A clerical post and an operating post can need different preparation after CBT 2.

Use the post parameters in your CEN to decide whether your qualification and medical eligibility fit. Then make a preference order you can explain. An aptitude requirement does not apply to every NTPC post; nor does typing. Keep a separate practice block for the additional task required by the posts you actually select.

4. Prepare the three common CBT subjects together

In maths, build fraction, percentage, ratio and rate fluency before longer calculations. In reasoning, explain the relationship or constraint instead of memorising the answer pattern. For general awareness, combine static concepts with dated current-affairs revision.

Use mixed sets regularly so you must choose the method yourself. After a mock, classify unfinished questions as unknown, too slow or poorly selected. Retry the “too slow” group with a simpler representation. Follow data interpretation and coding-decoding when those are the bottlenecks. Check the official stage rules before deciding the mock duration.

5. Handle older keys as a separate archive

The CEN 07/2025 undergraduate CBT 2 objection window ran in September and is labelled ended on our answer-key archive. Saving an old paper can help revision, but an old login is not evidence that a new recruitment's answer key exists.

When your own stage's key appears, save responses and question IDs, calculate raw marks using that paper's rule, and challenge only with evidence inside the stated window. Keep normalised marks and qualification separate from a personal estimate. Follow the matching board's official result list for the actual next-stage decision.

Try it before opening the answer

Original learning checks, not recalled exam questions or a prediction of your score.

1. A train travels 180 km in 3 hours. At the same speed, how far in 2.5 hours?

150 km.

Speed is 180 ÷ 3 = 60 km/h. Distance is 60 × 2.5 = 150 km. Keep hours and kilometres consistent.

2. A CEN 07/2025 response-sheet link appears while you are applying under 07/2026. Is it your current key?

No; the CEN year differs.

Recruitment number and year must match. Similar names and the same post level do not make the documents interchangeable.
